Traveller's Information
Highway:
For overland journey you will be traveling on Chinese-Nepalese Highway between Kathmandu and Lhasa. It stretches 900 kilometers to reach Shigatse & Lhasa.
In Lhasa mini buses are the main transportation, charging 2 RMB per person. Verdurous and silver-colored taxi is also available for hiring in Lhasa. The fare is in local currency (RMB) no matter where the destination is within the city.
Food:
In Lhasa there are some popular restaurants that provide Tibetan, Chinese and even Western food to the travelers. These restaurants also serve Tibetan tea (salted butter tea), sweet milk tea, hot boiling black tea, Tibetan barley beer, soft drinks, canned beer and imported wine, whisky and local beverage. Very basic food will be served at Zhangmu and Xegar. Guesthouse or hotel on the way provides a big thermos full of hot water.
Landslide & extra charge:
Our company will put all its efforts to make your journey smooth and pleasant. However, during the monsoon while crossing the Tibet-Nepal border you need to pay around US$ extra cost to hire porter & additional transport due to landslides & road blockade.
Time:
China time is 2 hrs and 15 min ahead of Nepal time in winter and 3 hrs and 15 min in the summer.
Money:
The circulated currency in Tibet is RMB. Foreign currency can be exchanged in the bank of China in Lhasa and other cities. But only the main offices of Bank of China accept traveler’s check & cash in advance. Lhasa Hotel & Tibet Hotel also offers foreign currency exchange services too. You can exchange money into RMB according to the exchange rate of that day with your valid passport. If you want to visit remote areas in Tibet, you are advised to have enough RMB with you. However, you can have some U$ dollars with you, too.
Health Requirements:
Our company reserves the rights to exclude clients who are physically or mentally unfit to undertake long trips. Travelers to Tibet are required to provide a doctor’s certificate stating that he/she is fit enough to travel & his/her blood pressure & heart condition are normal. This is a necessary requirement because of the possible effects that the very high altitude may have on certain people.
Reservation, Deposit & form of payment:
Deposit & completed reservation form should arrive at least 60 days in advance to confirm your tour with us. For Tibet and Bhutan trip you need to transfer US$ 300 per person as deposit via bank transfer to our following bank account.
Final Payment:
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in automatic cancellation of the tour. After you deposit the amount of US$ 300 per person the rest payment must be made upon arrival in Kathmandu before your trip begins. The company accepts cash US$, Euro or any other convertible currencies. We also accept final payment by a major credit card-visa, Master card.
Passport:
A traveler should bear with him a passport with validity remaining no less than six months. Make sure that it has plenty of blank pages for visas, entry and reentry stamps and extensions. Besides, holding other ID's like student card or driving license will be an advantage. Loosing passport in Tibet is very bad, as you have to go to Beijing to get new one.
Visa-Travel Permit:
Travelers to Tibet requires to obtain special Group Visa/Permit. The visa processing is initiated only after you book a trip with a qualified travel agency. Original passport has to be submitted along with the Visa Application Letter ( Invitation Letter) of Tibetan Tourism Authority to the Chinese Embassy in Nepal or abroad. We are eligible to process your visa/permit and can fax you the Visa Application Letter ( Invitation Letter) if you wish to apply the visa abroad. Normally, Chinese embassy of Kathmandu works on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 09 30 am to 11 am. The regular visa fee is USD 26 and you can collect the passport on the third working day. For emergency processing, there will be an extra fee.
