This trek is one of the finest soft treks in Central Tibet. Ganden Monastery is the starting point of the trek, 60km east of Lhasa Views from the mountain ridge above Ganden are superb, with barley fields sprawling across the valley floor, the splendid landscape doted with small villages. The trek concludes in Samye, the oldest Monastery. Upon ferrying across the Tsangpo, we make a side-trip to the nearby imposing Mindroling Monastery, the largest Nyingmapa-sect monastery in Central Tibet.
Itinerary:
Day 01: Fly Kathmandu to Lhasa & transfer to hotel; rest/acclimatization
Day 02: Sightseeing: Potala, Jokhang, Barkhor, O/N hotel;
Day 03: Sightseeing: Tibet Museum, Drepung Monastery, Norbulinka, O/N hotel;
Day 04: Drive to Sera, Phabongkha temple, short hike; O/N hotel.
Day 05: Drive to Drakyera; short hike; then to Ganden Monastery; Camp;
Day 7 Trekking; camp.
Day 8 Trekking; camp.
Day 9 Trekking; arrive at Samye;
Day 10 Visit Samye Monastery, cross Tsangpo; then drive to Tsedang, the birth place of Tibet Culture, with a stop at Mindroling Gompa;
Day 11 Visit Tradruk Temple, Yongbulakhang, Tombs of Tibetan Kings, Hotel.
Day 12 Drive Tsedang to Lhasa,
Day 13 Free day in Lhasa,
Day 14 Transfer to airport for departure.
